Sookshma Darshini Review

"Sookshma Darshini" directed by Mc Jithin and written by Athul Ramachandran and Libin T.B, is a gripping addition to the world of Malayalam cinema. Featuring Nazriya Nazim, Basil Joseph, Merin Philip and Deepak Parambol, the film follows an intriguing plot where curiosity leads to an investigation.

Manuel returns to his old neighborhood with his mother, Priyadarshini and her friends grow increasingly suspicious and then begins to investigate his true intentions. What starts as a casual curiosity spirals into a thrilling investigation, that keeps you hooked till the very end.

The story is a well crafted mix of suspense and unexpected twists, especially in the second half. While the first half adopts the style of typical Malayalam films, it sets the stage for the gripping events that follow. By the time the interval arrives, the narrative takes off with a pace and intensity that keeps you at the edge of your seat. screenplay ensures you are constantly piecing together the puzzle.

The performances add a significant layer of authenticity to the film. Nazriya as Darshini, along with the subtle yet impactful portrayal of Manuel and Ammachi, stand out. Basil Joseph’s humor, though subtle, balances the tension of the serious plot without feeling forced. The characters feel grounded, and their interactions contribute to a natural flow that enhances the emotional depth of the story.

The decision to keep songs to a minimum is another highlight. With only one song integrated into the plot and another playing as the theme, the focus remains squarely on the narrative. This choice works perfectly for a film of this nature, where any distraction would have diluted the suspense. The cinematography deserves a mention too, with its thoughtful framing, atmospheric color grading and seamless integration of the neighborhood’s charm into the storyline.

"Sookshma Darshini" is a refreshing take on investigation dramas, blending suspense with subtle humor and a well executed screenplay. It stands out as a different yet compelling attempt in Malayalam cinema, proving that great stories need no unnecessary embellishments. With its twists and a finale that leaves you stunned, it is an engaging watch.
